Originally planted in 1868 and replanted by Beckstoffer after phylloxera from 1994-97, the historic portion of the To Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville appellation was then purchase from Beaulieu Vineyard in 1993. Multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are planted, utilizing modern trellising and close vine spacing. Several award-winning, vineyard designated wines have originated from the To Kalon vineyards. Generation VIII by Herzog - To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon is the inaugural release of the special limited offering in a series of handcrafted, single vineyard lots honoring the Herzog family’s history of winemaking for eight generations. This wine is truly an exquisite example of combining the finest winemaking skills with the most sought after grapes grown in California. Specially selected grapes were cultivated at the renowned and historic To Kalon Vineyards in Napa Valley. These grapes offer significant terroir from one of the world’s best known and historic vineyards. To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of currant, cassis, black cherry and cedar followed by rich flavors of fruit and toasty oak. Full-bodied with well-balanced tannins, this wine will cellar well for at least 12 years.
